About Album

A puzzling piece with a tormented history, Rossini’s Edipo a Colono for bass, male choir and orchestra is rarely performed in modern times and represents a unicum in the entire repertoire of Italian music. The fruit of an unusual collaboration between librettist Giambattista Giusti and Italy’s most sought-after composer at the time, Rossini’s astonishing incidental music for Sophocles’ Oedipus at Colonus is brought to life again by Nahuel Di Pierro, the Coro del Teatro della Fortuna and the Filarmonica Gioachino Rossini conducted by Fabrizio Ruggero.

Album Reviews

Nahuel Di Pierro surprised by the perfect mastery and rendering of the declamation, to which the consolidated experience in reciting singing Italian and French certainly contributed. No words were dealt with superficially, Giusti's beautiful text was perfectly sculpted by the diction and the depth of thought of the verses admirably highlighted. Taking the opportunity in the arias that Rossini interspersed with recitatives, Di Pierro showed off his precious and velvety timbre, delighting the listener's ears (…) Success and ovations for Di Pierro, despite the small audience present in the room. An artist who is absolutely worth getting to know better.

Gianmarco Rossi, Musicpaper.it

Bass Nahuel Di Pierro championed the incidental music for Edipo a Colono with sustained dramatic intensity.

Paul-André Demierre, Crescendo Magazine

A native of Buenos Aires, Nahuel di Pierro (1984) is one of the best 'Rossini' basses (there has even been a book recently published on this subject). In fact, it is interesting to listen to: a beautiful timbre with the necessary technique for a bel canto and baroque player. Di Pierro is already a regular participant at the Rossini Festival in Pesaro. Hence his appeal to 'Edipo a Colono' is natural.

Livejournal, Russia

"The rossinophiles will however delight, throughout these forty-five minutes of music, of the seductive voice of the bass Nahuel Di Pierro and the fervor of the Coro del Teatro della Fortuna and the Filarmonica Gioacchino Rossini conducted by Fabrizio Ruggero.”

François Lafon, MUZIKEN
